Belated charm offensive: Ambaboys declare zero lockdown on 9&10 September in Meme Division!
In what was seen as a charm offensive by Ambaboys after a devastating lockdown extended by the Meme SDO, the entire Meme Division will get a two-day respite on today and tomorrow.
In an adjustment made public by the Ambazonia Ground Zero Military Command, it was indicated that Meme County and Kumba would have exceptional open days on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th September to counteract what it said was “the illegal decision of that LRC colonial DO”.
The Senior Divisional Officer of the Meme Division, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin, had prohibited the movement of persons and goods in the Division from Saturday September 7, to Sunday September 8, 2019.
In a press release signed Thursday September 5, 2019, Ntou’ou Ndong informed the population of Kumba and its environs to stay home that weekend and resume activities Monday September 9, 2019.
“All markets, commercial stores, filing stations, commercial bikes, taxis and inter-urban transport are hereby prohibited to operate or circulate in Meme Division from Saturday the 7th to Sunday the 8th of September, 2019.”
According to the SDO, the move was attributed to the prevailing security situation in the Division and in Kumba in particular. But it was seen as way of punishing the Meme population for observing the lockdown last week and force them to come out on Monday as a result of starvation.
Meanwhile, in another bait for the population to come out on Monday, an auction sale of food items was announced for Monday September 9 in Kumba, by the Divisional Officer of Kumba I.
In a communiqué signed by Divisional Officer of Kumba I, it was indicated that there would be an auction sale of food stuff like meat and other commodities of basic necessity.
The exercise will start as from 7 O’ Clock in the morning at the Kumba main market as the Divisional Officer has called on the population to turn out massively for the sale.
