New ‘Radisson Blu’ under construction in Douala.

The old CNPS building will soon be transformed into a five-star luxury hotel. According to the visiting Senior Director for Development of the Radisson Hotel Group for Portuguese and French speaking Africa, Ervan Garnier, the hotel christened, “Radisson Blu Douala”, will comprise two towers; one eleven storeys high and the other 15 storeys tall with balconies for each flat. Radisson Blu Hotel Douala which is going to be the first five-star luxury hotel in Cameroon, will also comprise a swimming pool with a spa, 180 luxury rooms, 10 conference halls, a fitness centre and restaurants that meet international standards.

Erwan Garnier said Cameroon was chosen because it is the financial hub of central Africa with a market opportunity as there is no luxury five star hotel in the country. It will be autonomous in water supply since it will be equipped with a forage with a volume of 60 to 80 cubic metres. As to why they chose to renovate an existing building instead of constructing a new one, the Senior Director said it is because of cost effectiveness as it is more profitable to rehabilitate than to construct and more so, it is faster to renovate since the hotel will have to go operational in less a year and half.

It is worthy to note that the project is fruit of public–private sector cooperation between the National Social Insurance Fund, CNPS, and Radisson Group in partnership with Financial Properties. The project is aimed at modernizing the architectural beauty of Douala as well as the tourism potentials of the economic capital. It will also contribute to creating jobs not only the renovation works but also during the exploitation of the hotel. The construction phase will create some 600 jobs whereas the exploitation phase will mobilise some 200 workers. Radisson Blu will also boost business transactions in central Africa as investors would have a befitting accommodation according to international norms when they come to do business in central Africa.

 Radisson Hotel Group possesses more than 1440 hotels in 115 countries across the world. They also have other facilities such as Quorvus collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson Red, Plaza Park, Park Inn, Country Inns and suites and so on. In Africa, the group has 86 hotels comprising 17800 rooms in 30 countries. Radisson Blu hotel and Apartments–Douala will also have state-of-the-art security apparatus.
