Anglophone Crisis: 300 IDP families receive humanitarian aid.

Over 1000 Internally Displaced Persons (I.D.Ps) flocked to the regional coordination center in Bamenda to benefit from government’s humanitarian aid last week, but only the 300 who had registered could be served.

The ceremony holding at the esplanade of the North West Governor’s office was chaired by the SG at the North West Governor’s office, Harry Lanyuy. He said "in view of ascertaining a definite solution to the Anglophone crisis, the minister of territorial administration urged us to accelerate the distribution process and it is in view of this program that we have programmed 300 families".

The enthusiasm shown by the population was an indication that they had ignored calls for the lockdown imposed by pro independence fighters. A satisfied Harry Lanyuy further told The HorizonL:"I therefore want to thank the population here present for deciding not to adhere to lockdown calls in the region and we are therefore hopeful in the days ahead they will open up their shops and carry out their usual activities".

The North West governor’s representative further said:"We have urged them to appeal to their brothers and sisters in the bushes (combatants) to seize the oppurtunity and drop their arms, leave the bushes and join the demobilisation, disintegration and rehabilitation center so as to eventually be part of the dialogue process for the development of our great and beautiful country".

To Mrs Yong Rita, IDP from Boyo division "the gifts of mattress, cooking oil, blankets, cubes of savon, bag of rice, sardine and 10.000 frs gives me joy. Upon arrival in Banenda due to the displacement, I am unemployed and have nothing to eat and nowhere to receive hope from .....With this gift I feel helped", she said.

Reacting to reported dishonest, slow-paced distribution and a characteristic poor managerial approach reported by some IDPs who haven’t benefitted, Mr Tchuente Gilbert, sub-director in charge of civil protection at the Ministry of territorial administration insisted: "This exercise is to show that the fate of the IDPs is known by the territorial administration minister because a week ago due to the influx of IDPs we had to reschedule another distribution. To this note those who haven’t received must exercise patience. The coordination centers charged with the registration are doing their utmost best and this testifies to the pace at which we received the scrutinized list and obviously we shall return".

Tchuente further insisted the procedure for registration is simple. "They only have to approach the service unit at the Divisional Offices where they shall be registered and programmed for an eventual distribution".
