Gov’t prepares ground for the second phase of Vision 2035.

The first phase of the plan which focuses on making Cameroon an emerging nation by 2035 is running close to its deadline. The long term vision initiated by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya in 2009 had a strategic plan which was segmented in three phases.
The first phase to run from 2010 to 2019 was expected to accelerate economic growth. This phase falls in line with government actions and reflects in other activities of the government.
With the year 2019 soon closing in, the government through the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, has convened a series of workshops to plan for the second phase of the emergence plan which has to run for seven years, beginning from 2020 till 2027.
The opening ceremony of the workshops took place at Hilton Hotel in Yaounde, on Tuesday 17 September 2019 with the participation of Secretaries General from all the Ministries and some experts from partner organisations. The workshops are expected to run from Wednesday 17 September 2019 to Wednesday, 25 September 2019.
The one-week program will be characterized by presentations that will open minds and enable participants to formulate the strategic orientations of every sector to serve as input in the elaboration of the second phase.
The objective of the workshops is to examine and validate major problems, challenges and flaws each sector will face in 10years, examine and validate the major proposals and reforms and few other issues relevant to the vision.
At the end, it is expected that major problems and weaknesses of all the sectors will be examined, proposals of reforms in orientation and action plan of every sector examined and others.
It is important to note that the first phase suffered challenges especially due to the sociopolitical conflicts in Cameroon and the economic growth rate has been regressing in some parts of the country, thus yielding a drop in the desired speed. It is no doubt that the failure in the execution of some projects which were to be a boost to the economy, caused sufficient friction in the vision which almost stopped the emergence train from moving. Expectations remain high as government continues to face challenges in its vision.
