George Gilbert Baongla: Ardent martyr for justice and freedom of Cameroon.

What is known to have become so recurrent today in our beloved country, Cameroon, is the tendency of unleashing hatred and persecution against anyone or group that vows to tenaciously denounce the wanton ills perpetrated by some unscrupulous and vicious elites of the Republic. A recent scapegoat who has fallen prey into the evil hands is the very vocal and outspoken George Gilbert Baongla. This ardent political figure and journalist has been known in many circles to have engaged a ferocious war against some barons of the regime he qualifies as “a gang of predators and zombies who have taken the State of Cameroon hostage for decades”.

GG Baongla, in his fifties, has become a Cameroonian business figure but is still little known to his fellow citizens. Today, he has created a buzz within the press and social networks by his language of a singular frankness since he publicly sported several hats.

The darling leader of the Republican Party is an assertive patriotic activist who denounces, disturbs, teases and challenges with bravery and intelligence the unflattering activities of the elites who have taken and continue to take Cameroon hostage by prevarication. This denunciatory side that he began with his pen several years ago through the revelations published in his tabloid Le Dementi for which he himself was editorialist and publisher, had twice won him two 24-hour detentions at Kondengui Central Prison in Yaounde. The muzzling of GG Baongla goes back several decades and this is not to mention the many muscular interrogations he faced from the Focve, the dreaded former boss of CENER, the intelligence service Fochive. Despite all these challenges in a very hostile environment, GG Baongla remains true to his principles and will stop at nothing when it comes to denouncing embezzlement.

Another salient idea that puts his detractors’ in an uncomfortable situation hinges on his clear ambition to become the future president of the Republic of Cameroon and whose charisma and tenacity are no longer to be demonstrated or even for detractors whatever the horizons and energy dimension.

GG Baongla confronts everything without fear, which is new and rare for many Cameroonians and this phenomenon brings a breath of fresh air to freedom of expression in Cameroon.

An ardent professional in the media landscape of Cameroon, GG Baongla is known to be keen in verifying all his information before any denunciation. Transparency and evidence is his trade mark. This quality of denouncing the spoilers of the state publicly with proofs in hand earned him the pseudonym “Monsieur preuves or Mr. Google”!

He is also an impressive one man show communicator who knows how to captivate his audience with his mix of fluent and familiar language. Packed with several University degrees, GG Baongla favours a communication technique that is simple and closer to the people. This simplicity is in sharp contrast with his political opponents and other journalists who sometimes give the impression of having recorded and memorized all bigger words of old French to impress their audience and to appear as learned people. GG Baongla knows how to avoid the stray bullets of journalists, whose ethics and lack of professionalism are unfortunately sometimes deplored. Mr. Baongla is fortunate enough to give the blows to his opponents with humour and fair play.

We should not forget that GG Baongla is the first Cameroonian to have succeeded in bringing together all the important political organizations of Cameroon in the 90s under the theme Do not cut the link. This initiative was thought and implemented through the messengers of peace association co-managed with Pastor Lekina during the critical period of Cameroon’s democratic transition.

Mr. GG Baongla equally thought that for a new Cameroon, it will be first of all be necessary to draw up a balance sheet of the state heritage plundered by a small minority of prevaricators already identified.“There can be no real democracy in Cameroon without starting with the recovery of state property unduly acquired by a minority of people who have outsized financial appetites”, he unequivocally declared during a TV interview. According to Mr. Baongla, civic citizenship is one of the key and essential elements to better emancipate and achieve the objectives of emergence of Cameroon. As for his political program, the president of the Republican party has as objective to completely overhaul the educational, judicial, electoral and political systems of Cameroon should the opportunity be given to him.

Georges Gilbert Baongla began his studies at Lycee Leclerc in Yaounde where he obtained his scientific baccalaureat C in 1979. He then flew to the region of the Grand Est in France, where he will simultaneously obtain a degree in political science and a degree in sociology the same year in 1982. A year later, he earned his master’s degree in Sociology at the University of Liege in Belgium and also became a graduate of the Ecole pratique des-Hautes Etudes des Science Politique. Mr. Baongla is a passionate intellectual and thirsty for knowledge.

What transpired on the 29th of May following the arbitrary arrest of GG Baongla, by the judicial police that was orchestrated by Amougou Belinga of Groupe Anecdote is a very common phenomenon to all ardent martyrs and political dissidents who tenaciously stand for truth and justice. The spectacle and pomp surrounding his recent arrest is a clear testimony of a well stage-managed episode by the gruesome predators of the state who vehemently reject any denunciator. Baongla is a veritable denunciator who has been giving sleepless nights to all those who handled the organization of the 2019 African Nations Cup that ended in a fiasco. He has also denounced the senseless war in the South West and North West regions with very horrendous consequences as well as few barons who have ferociously emptied the state coffers for their personal gains .

GG Baongla falls within the same paradigm with the late Charles Ateba Eyene, who was so vigorous in denouncing corruption, nepotism, poor governance and Satanism in the Cameroonian administration. Mr. Baongla has vowed to continue castigating the few elites who have taken the country hostage for several decades, with the goal of liberating the downtrodden and paupers from bondage.

He has greatly won the minds of many Cameroonians who see him as a liberator, just like the great Christ who died to liberate humanity from bondage. GG Baongla is equally prepared to expose the rotten elites of the regime that have taken hostage of the President of the Republic and the entire nation.
