Major National Dialogue: NW, SW give success proposals.
Those present at the Prime Minister’s office on September 26, 2019 could readily understand that the Major National Dialogue convened by the Head of State, Paul Biya concerned mainly the North West and the South West Region. The delegations from the two regions that came for the consultations rivalled each other in terms of the quality of personalities in attendance and numbers.
The cabinet meeting hall of the Star Building could hardly contain members of the delegations whom Prime Minister, Head of Government Chief, Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, received separately.
Their yearning to see the ongoing socio-political and security crisis affecting the two regions end was translated through their enthusiasm and the declarations of the delegation leaders. Speaking for the North West Region, Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique said the security situation in the region was globally under control even if there are still security concerns in some areas. As to their proposals, he said they raised the major concerns of the region in the social, economic, security, administrative domains and even extended to those of the minority, disabled persons, women and youths. The North West Region proposed the speedy implementation of the decentralization process in order to give more means to municipalities and regions to solve the main concerns they raised to the Prime Minister. The region, the Governor said, is aware of the indivisibility and united State of Cameroon but convinced that with more means given local authorities, many problems will be solved at the grassroots level and would prevent the crisis the region is now facing.
Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, heading the South West delegation, assured that the region was behind President Paul Biya so that the dialogue could create job opportunities for youths for them not to be easily manipulated.
The Bureau of the Senate led by Senior Deputy Speaker of the House, Aboubakary Abdoulaye after two days of meeting came to bring the support of the Upper House of Parliament to the Head of State for convening the dialogue. The delegation leader told the press that they submitted a four-point proposal and contributions of the Senate to the Prime Minister that tie with the mission of representatives of local authorities.
