“We wish DDR centres are created at divisional levels” - Gerald Ngalla, member of demobilization sub-committee.
“We are looking at ways to facilitate the transition of the boys from the bushes to the major disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) of ex-fighters centres. We are thinking of proposing the creation of other centres at the divisional levels and areas where the war has intensified. We know that some of the boys are willing to leave the bushes. However, when they look at the distance, they will travel to arrive the nearest DDR centre; they feel discouraged especially as some of them do not have identity cards to use along the road. We also wish that DDR centres should be created in the district or divisional levels to ensure communication with the boys in the bushes. This is to enable them leave the bushes and join the centres for their effective reintegration into the society. Most of these boys were radicalised through the social media and we are looking for means to use the social media to sell the image of what the DDR is doing, so that most of them who are still doubting what the DDR is doing will be encouraged to leave the bushes and join such centres. Our objective is to ensure that these boys leave the bushes, get jobs and go to school for those who wish to do so.”
