“We discussed incentives for the Diaspora”

“Our committee has its discussions focused on two main parts. The first part is to analyse the role of the Diaspora in this conflict and the second part is discussing the role of the Diaspora in the development of this country. We talked about the issue of dual citizenship and the representation of the diaspora in the parliament. We observed the Diaspora is not well structured and until we do it, we will not be able to fully maximize that potential. So we proposed the creation of the high council of Cameroonians abroad. The Diaspora is a vector of the development of the country. But how do you do it? We can do it through the transfer of knowledge and technology. We have discussed ways of putting together a package of incentives to make it easier for the Diaspora to come back to Cameroon and invest. Improving partnerships with organisations equally came under deliberations. The actions of the Diaspora are needed for the emergence of the country and we are actually happy because this national dialogue widens more the path of the Diaspora to participate in the development process of Cameroon.”
