YOSA suffer defeat as PWD send strong signal to Elite Clubs.

Considered as a game endowed with relief, football in the North West region has and continues to be a rich venture. It is to this view that over 400 onlookers and supporters who stormed the Big Mankon Catholic School field to watch a pre-season friendly derby between two home-based clubs Public Works Department FC (PWD) of Bamenda and Yong Sports Academy (YOSA). The game showed a below 40 % preparation at the senior category. Both teams pulled a 1 all tie, an indication that YOSA’s participation in last year’s elite 1 championship was not enough to keep its supporters in good cheer.

In the amateur category whereby players vie for a place to join the senior category, PWD defeated YOSA 1-0. The goal was scored at the 63rd minute of play thanks to a divine intervention from 19 shirted Kenneth Edel. The lack-lustre performance of both teams left many observers saying that the respective coaches have a lot of homework to do.

Nkabyo Martin, head coach for YOSA hinted: "We have done little or nothing to be appreciated. Owing to the Anglophone crisis we couldn't have our complete training sessions which may have kept the teams at a positive note. We had previously engaged in a back to back 2 weeks training session which in the mornings and evenings we could work on the players’ abilities seeing that they are still fresh from the division 2 and regional leagues.To this therefore we shall in the coming days continue to sharpen preparations so we attain a commendable preparatory mark before deadline.”

Just like his peer of YOSA who shall all be making their first outing, David Pagou of PWD was not short of words: " On a general rating the boys are 50 % gone. It’s true they have the talents but elite 1 football is more of experience and intelligence. The children possess so many qualities but unfortunately they are just too young for the league owing to their ball receptions, passes, follow ups on the loss of the ball and others. It was a fair game I should say but never the less the dice is cast and we will continue to see how we get all set.”

Considering that PWD is not just a social club but considered a slippery ground for non-performing coaches, Pagou said: " I came in to do my best and I will do just that. It’s my obligation to see all works and for sure like other clubs all supporters want to see their teams excel which most times weighs on the coach".

Going further, Pagou said: " I had a warm reception from the entire supporters who turned out to watch my first outing with the boys and I understand what this means to them".

Aithough the coaches were relatively unsatisfied owing to the outcome of the game, some supporters who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed to the press they are partially satisfied with the game. One hinted at the seniors game he saw pretty level-headed football “but as a fan versed with the team I was however worried because YOSA’s mid field compartment isn’t working. Hopefully with the eventual recovery and effective resumption of practice by Randy Ntume, I am sure all will be well.”

To another "it was a pretty fair rating but much attention should be paid on PWD’s seniors as many of the juniors still linger slightly beneath the cross line". He added:"ball conservations, short and confidential passes, as well shots on goal are all lacking. What makes elite 1 football different from the elite 2

are the above mentioned. And to me this is not just an aspect to be built in a day or week because the time frame for kick off is short and works as such must take a longer phase. Thus the coaches must be careful in the choices they make for the club.”
