NW governor showers more IDPs with blessings.

Over 400 internally displaced persons resident in Bamenda over the weekend benefitted from government’s humanitarian aid. The aid which administrative officials insist is geared towards rekindling hope and further fostering trust between the government and the people has benefitted thousands of IDPs in the two Anglophone regions who lack a means of livelihood. Its coordination is by the Civil Protection Unit of the Ministry of Territorial Administration.
The eagerness of the IDPs to receive the aid was discernible in the fact that hundreds braved the heavy rains to troop to the esplanade of the NW Governor’s Chambers to have their own share. They were responding previous calls by the region’s number one administrative head to this effect.
Governor Lele Lafrique used the opportunity to inform the masses of some major proposals tabled at the just-ended national dialogue to which he led the North West delegation.
He said the special status granted Anglophones would resolve and answer the thousand and one aspirations raised by the people through their delegates. Lele Lafrique urged them to remain sober and calm while they await the implementation of the resolutions of the dialogue. He once more appealed to separatists to drop their guns, promising that they would be welcomed back home as prodigal sons. The gifts which comprised of tins of ground nut oil, buckets, tins of sardines, cubes of savon, 5kg of rice were saluted by many as they insisted the gesture is timely. They expressed regret that mattresses were absent in that consignment.
A disgruntled female beneficiary quipped: "I appreciate the gift so much but how can they give us blankets with no mattresses. Before now I was sleeping on a mat with more than five children. I thought on such a day my joy will be complete. Since my husband was shot and caught by a stray bullet HE has become my husband, as such I can’t sleep on bare floor. Let him look into our situation and save us".
Going further, the lady whom The Horizon learnt was in her late 40s insisted: "My children don't go to school due to the crisis. Worst of all, I can’t afford school fees, but sadly enough I keep hearing of back to school campaigns. What then do I use to send them to school?" she quipped.
Another declared her joy at the gifts on condition of anonymity. She said: "The rice, sardine, oil ,etc will really be of great help to me. I haven’t eaten something nice for long and besides for the weeks ahead I am sure to be in a great sigh of relief".
Note should be taken that though the IDPs uniformly demanded mattresses which were not included in the distribution plan,nothing has been said on whether or not they shall be given any. Officials off camera told the press "there are no mattresses. If there were we would have given ".
