RECAN 2019: NW wraps up celebration in grand style.

Curtains have closed for the fourth edition of the relaunch of the artistic and culture season (RECAN 2019) in the North West on a note of satisfaction.

Opening the ceremony at the esplanade of the regional delegation of culture and co-hosted by the secondary education ministry, artists responded to a massive call to celebrate a heritage which dates centuries back. The beautiful Atogoh, the Fang Beti dance groups presentation, the West regional outfits on display all made the atmosphere a rainbow, signifying a rejuvenation of the cultural sector.

Presiding over the one-week exercise ,North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, seized the opportunity to enlighten the masses on some deliberations arrived at during the dialogue process to which he led the North West delegation. He insisted it offered a platform where culture which remains a unifying factor was well underlined as its role in nation building and national unity and the living together concept were all given pride of place.

Lele Lafrique insisted culture will not be neglected in the emergence of the nation come 2035. He said in the regional council plan under the decentralization process the aspect of culture would be given a pride of place.

Sitting in for the government delegate of the Bamenda City Council , the secretary general in an opening speech noted Bamenda has always been a safe haven for arts and culture insisting that its undisputable role as a platform for cementing arts and culture and progress has always been of great government concern. He further said "with a world where technological development is fast gaining grounds, events such as RECAN go a long way as it presents a platform to identify, showcase, present and pass over heritage from generation to generations".

To him the event which is championed by the head of state is in a bid to help the masses spearhead their cultural evolution and destiny. The artists who occupied a total of 23 stands hosted the region’s number 1 administrative head who took out time to tour in appreciation of the diverse endowments.

One among many presentations was "a letter from the android generation to parents." Over 300 youths were thrilled by a peer who insisted to parents that evolution must be accepted. He berated the old school for railing against the usage of mobile phones, western outfits amongst others. Hear him: "You say I do not care about my country's development as all I do is castigate, devalue and fail to relate in my day to day dealings with others but through the past 20 years you have been playing the dv American lottery. So if you really love this country why play the lottery? You say I am a fanatic for choosing to study with phones and having the social media as my tool. What else should I do? Get the local drums and play?" He thus insisted innovation is the mother of change.

The ceremony saw the Bamenda dance group, NW women for peace, Njinikom dance group amongst others adding colour to the day by their performances. At the event’s grounds, paintings, knittings, beauty models, film makers and investors were visible. The traditional raffia palm was visibly seen as Lele shared to its locally refined taste.
