After meeting Macron: ‘Born-again’ Biya returns home in triumph!
President Paul Biya who is often criticized for overstaying his welcome during brief stays abroad unexpectedly returned home in record time following his rather successful participation at the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment Conference that held last Wednesday and Thursday in Lyon, France.
For the first time, Biya came back to Yaounde immediately after the high-level conference at which the country made an important contribution. The icing on the cake was his historic tête-à-tête with French president, Emmanuel Macron during which Biya had the opportunity to brief him on the holding of the Major National Dialogue. The two leaders are also said to have discussed cooperation on matters of defence and security.
Little wonder, therefore, that supporters of the head of state, especially militants of the ruling CPDM, were mobilized at short notice to welcome him and the First Lady in triumph last Saturday, as if to celebrate an important diplomatic victory. On hand to receive President Biya at the Nsimalen Airport were The Speaker of the National assembly, Cavaye yeguie Djibril; Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute; the Minister of State Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, and other important dignitaries.
By making his French trip snappy, observers said the president was sending a strong signal to his critics that he was determined more than ever before to tackle head on the challenges staring Cameroon in the face in record time. One of the pressing files on his table is the implementation of the resolutions of the Major National Dialogue so as to ensure peace in Cameroon.
