Why Akere Muna walked out on MND.
One of the highlights of day one of the Major National Dialogue in Yaounde was the walk-out by the leader of the Now Movement, Barrister Akere Muna.
His pull-out was widely criticized by some participants including the highflying communications mogul John Dashaco. But he was later to expatiate on his walk-out in a statement issued on October 1.
Akere said he suspended his participation in MND as it became painfully clear that, they needed Spectators and not Participants.
Hear him: “The unfolding of the events of the first day of the Major National Dialogue revealed that, everything was carefully stage managed and produced from a script from which the organizers could not stray. From what I saw, it became painfully clear that, they needed Spectators and not Participants”.
On the topics to be handled on the dialogue table, Barrister Akere Muna lamented that, certain topics were absent: “Worse still, certain topics such as the form of the state, and the situation of political and economic prisoners which are important in the current context have simple been avoided ”.
Barrister AkereMuna also intimated that, when he was received by Prime Minister Chief Joseph Dion Ngute as part of consultations that preceded the Major National Dialogue, he presented certain historical facts that were forerunners of the present crisis and made certain proposals that he thought would ensure the success of the Major National Dialogue.
Akere Muna also used the statement on the Major National Dialogue to frown at the manner in which things were done on day one of the event: “I was hoping to find a platform where all stakeholders will make their voices heard and where all opinions, however divergent would be taken in to account because, frequently, a way out is found at the end of a healthy debate”.
He however promised to continue working tirelessly for the restoration of peace, social justice and national cohesion in Cameroon.
