News: Kamto, Kah Walla condemn Sangmelima riot.

The Cameroonian political class has been very vocal in its condemnation of the recent riots that gripped President Paul Biya’s constituency of Sangmelima, Dja and Lobo Division, recently. Among those to put the blame for this failed litmus test for living together on the doorstep of the ruling elite of that area are Professor Maurice Kamto’s MRC and Kah Walla’s CPP.

In a declaration released last week, Kamto,the recently freed political leader of MRC noted that violence was in no instance justifiable. “We are all sons and daughters of one country, Cameroon,” he said.

Happening after the Major National Dialogue, “the attacks”, Kamto said, “are proof that living-together has to be constructed and maintained as a reality and not just a hollow slogan”.

In solidarity with victims of the violence and looting, the MRC “calls on the state to take its responsibility, bring an end to the situation, re-establish social peace and bring adequate security to the victims”.

For its part, Kah Walla’s CPP said the incident “is a reflection of the increasing number of tragedies that are occurring throughout the country”.

In a statement first exploited by Mimi Mefo Info, CPP said violence is unacceptable from any point of view.

“Cameroon does not need a new source of tension. All of us as Cameroonians must ensure that calm returns and that fundamental issues are properly addressed,” the statement by the CPP Scribe, Frank Essi, said.

Lack of education, social and economic integration and unemployment, the party of Edith Kah Walla explained, are the root causes of such actions. ASSAM Belinga, the individual that that lost his life, the CPP says, deserves justice.

Speeches of “Manipulation by the false elites… use these masses as electoral livestock, we are indeed in a worrying situation,” it went on.

All this happenings, it concluded, are signs of an urgent need to rebuild the foundations on which the country operates.

“The time is no longer that of an outdated president. It is the time of the people and of taking charge of their problems in depth” the party added.

Violence erupted in Sangmelima Wednesday, October 9, 2019, when locals stormed the police station where a non-indigene who reportedly assaulted and murdered an indigene of Sangmelima, a bike rider, was detained.
