Repentant Amba Fighter killed: NW Administration, DDR to blame?
By Etoh Anzah George in Bamenda.
Charged with the administrative obligation of installing Senior Divisional Officers after appointments the governor of the NW region made his second stop-over to Wum after Momo Division where in the relay baton was passed from Kamga Charles to Abdoullahi Aliou. In the unfolding of events at the Wum ceremonial ground, the overwhelming population was thrilled when Ikom Polycap Bah mounted the rostrum to address the masses.
In a reconciliatory tone, he declared: "I have come here today to see if the head of state’s promise of no prosecution and persecution to repentant fighters is true. Before now I fought against the military, against the Mbororos. To this, I want the population to forgive me, and to knot things as a sign of repentance. I invite a security official and any Mbororos to come so I hug them".
Convinced that the latter was truly repentant, some administrative officials who conveyed the team of dignitaries at the Wum ceremonial ground opened their arms as they hugged and saluted his bravery and decision.
Polycarp who previously was known as General Ikom on the stage had promised "through his intention to leave there and other fighters in the bushes and as a follow up will aid in their desertion of the bushes in hope of embracing civil life.”
*Administrative Blunder*
The disarmament demobilisation and reintegration commission recently set up by the government as part of activities to curb and reform separatist fighters is yet to score visible pass marks. Influenced by General Ikom's decision, Gabsa Wilfred head of the NW Disarmament Demobilisation and Reintegration Commision (DDR) was spotted in a video telling the combatant "tell your friends to leave the bushes too ehhh". As stipulated by the presidential text, Gabsa was supposed to entreat the latter to leave the municipality and hopefully join the governor’s convoy as they return so he can be refined, reformed, transformed and reinserted. Sadly enough he was left to himself. It should be recalled by sensible prescriptions if an ex-fighter drops his weapons he has indeed accepted to be under state rules, thus he owes his allegiance to state laws. Gabsa told sources he did propose this option but the latter turned it down insisting he wants to aid in pulling the others out. This further will mean a watering down of the commission’s powers before its coordinator and silence thus breathes acceptance. Others say NW governor through his administrative powers or other wise was in a place to order the latter to accompany him to Bamenda where the DDR center’s stronghold is .The administrative neglect to many is thus partly to blame for the outcome.
*Polycap’s Flaws*
Knowing fully well how gruesome his acts of barbarism were as then General Ikom, coupled with the impact of the gun on human life in his combat days, Polycarps decision to stay without security backing was seen as ill-advised. After his rejection of protection he is said to have returned to his local abode before he was brought out and found dead with supposed machete cuts. Some separatists activists including Mark Bareta on his facebook platform posted "he dared to drop his arm before reaching Buea so our forces on ground killed him". Other fingers point at a certain Mbororo whose facebook account hinted by morning Polycarp will be dead so others learn that Wum belongs to the Mbororos. To this therefore questions are posed as to who exactly should the pendulum of accusation lean?
Amba boys claim responsibilty
Meanwhile, a group of separatist fighters in the North West region, the Menchum Freedom Fighters (MFF), have issued a warning to persons posing to be them.
In an announcement released in social media, the group said it was with great dismay that it “received the Fake News orchestrated by the Government of LRC, using Polycap, the former Okada riders’ leader in Wum who claimed to be a former Amba General.”
“We want to categorically debunk the lies they told in their televised drama in Wum. Let it be known to all that Polycap has never been an Amba fighter let alone, an Amba General” MFF said. “It is from his Douala base that he was brought to commit this treason against the Menchum County in particular and against Ambazonia in general” it added.
His death the MFA note should “serve as a strong warning to any Ambazonian who will be approached by LRC to go against our quest for the restoration of our independence.”
Polycap, it should be recalled, presented himself to administrative authorities on Wednesday saying he was an amba general.
