Marie-Thérése Abena Ondoa, Minster of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, has taken the bull by the horns as if to buttress the adage that goes “what a man can do, a woman can do and even better.” This is to contribute to the restoration of peace in the South West and North West Regions of the country, which have gone through turbulence for over two years now. In fact, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and other partners, have embarked on impacting and rising up women to play key roles through prayers, educative talks and capacity building, particularly the internally Displaced Women (IDW) in entrepreneurial skills so that they can effectively contribute to ensuring that peace returns to the entire nation.

On June 6 in Yaounde, in prolongation of activities to commemorate the 25th edition of the International Day of Families, under the theme: “Cameroonian Families faced with the Socio-political Crisis: Challenges and Perspectives”, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family organized an ecumenical service not just to pray for peace in the nation but also to empower victims of the crisis with gifts to ensure their wellbeing and better face the future with courage and determination. Families from the troubled South West and North West Regions, especially the women, were told to be fearless, for even in the bible, women have been part of God’s plan to crush the enemy and bring peace to the nations. Through prayers, God’s servants on several occasions have recalled that women in the bible have helped usher in the new thing and new dawn in any nation.

As such, women of Cameroon should not relent through powerful prayers to bring peace in the country.

In another inter-religious service one week ago in Yaounde, Abena Ondoa chaired prayers from women in all denominations in the country, with a specific objective: to present the country to God-Almighty and to beg him to restore peace in the North West and South West Regions. Pastors on all the occasions asked God to heal Cameroon and restore peace and love, for God is love and peace. Women have been called to be fearless and confident in who they are and what they believe because in faith, their prayers for Cameroon will be answered.

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family has also organized events to offer assistance to families through the donation of farm tools, machines and the granting of financial assistance to women’s projects. The ministry has also taken social action to empower women by sensitizing them on their rights, advocate at all levels for the promotion of their rights as well as that of the girl-child and also the training of women and girls especially those who are not able to complete formal education due to political crisis or economic reasons. Various women empowerment centres in the country continue to carry out the enormous task of building the capacity of women in fields of their competence.
