PWD Bamenda regains top-flight status.
PWD of Bamenda will play in League 1 even after missing out on two matches.
The club emerged victorious in its tussle with Astres of Douala.
The decision was taken in the later hours of Friday evening by the Appeals Commission of FECAFOOT.
It was a fulfilled club president Pascal Abunde who broke the good news on his Facebook page thus:
“Dear supporters and sympathizers of our darling club, today is a great day for us all. The appeals commission of FECAFOOT has just rendered the decision to our appeal in our favor. I want to thank our entire legal team for a Job well done. I can now confirm that PWD Bamenda shall play Elite 1 football for the 2019/2020 football season. I want to equally thank all the supporters for their indefatigable support during these difficult moments”.
PWD of Bamenda have been in a tussle for a League 1 position since the 8th of June when a fraud case was noticed from Astres of Douala. Since then, it’s been a never-ending tale of bad blood between PWD and Astres, but the scramble was put to rest October 25th.
The club will from next week be programmed to play matches with other premier League clubs. Last week, matches were scheduled with both second and first division clubs with pairings including both Astres and PWD, creating confusion in the minds of supporters of both clubs. None of the teams turned up for any of the matches.
It should be noted that New Stars of Douala had challenged the qualification of the player Tangi Eric Atoh for playing for Astres FC when he still has a binding contract with Botafogo FC of Doaula.
PWD through a voluntary submission also observed the same irregularity following a complaint to the League dated June 12.
The Secretary General of the LFPC had also on June 11 seized the Homologation and Disciplinary Committee of the League as well for possible violation of FECAFOOT rules and regulation governing the transfer of players.
The protest of the SG of the League was judged admissible and deliberated upon, leading to the suspension of the player Tangi Eric for two seasons and Astres lost three points in the concerned match.
