Norway denies links with Anglophone separatists.
Norway has dispelled insinuations published recently in some Cameroonian newspapers that it was complacent with some Cameroonian activists living in its territory, who are fronting the separatist narrative in Cameroon.
The records were set straight recently during two key meetings held recently between the Norwegian Ambassador to Cameroon with residence in Abuja, His Excellency Jens-Petter Kjemprud, the country’s visiting Deputy Director at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Multilateral Cooperation, Stormark Kare, and Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, as well as the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
One of the audiences was at Unity Palace on Friday, 18 October, during which the visiting Norwegian Deputy Director at his country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry held talks with the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency, who received him on behalf of President Biya. The audience, that lasted about 25 minutes, saw the handing over of a sealed message from the Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, to the Cameroonian Head of State. The envoy also used the opportunity to dispel insinuations published recently in some Cameroonian newspapers that Norway was complacent with some Cameroonian activists living in its territory, who are fronting the separatist narrative in Cameroon. He reaffirmed Norway’s continuous support to Cameroon in all forms.
The other audience was that which the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, granted the Norwegian Ambassador to Cameroon and the visiting Deputy Director. They discussed with their host on various topics of interest. The exchange, we gathered, touched specifically on ways and means through which both countries can deepen economic and trade ties.
During the exchange that lasted about one hour, the trio also dissected other issues, including gender equality, the role of women in socio-economic development and climate change. Cameroon and Norway have very strong bilateral ties; both countries, among other things, have, in the last few years, sealed a number of technical, financial and economic partnerships. One of such partnerships has to do with a project for the financing, construction and extension of potable water supply networks in some cities of Cameroon.
