YouthConnekt Africa: Cameroonian earns about fcfa 2.95 million.
Juveline Ngum Ngwa, 31, from the North West Region won a Prize of 5000 dollars in the “Economic Development” category at the just ended YouthConnekt Africa summit held in Kigali Rwanda. The competition which had 2,500 selected young people saw the colours of the Cameroon flying high at the end of the event. The cash prize worth 5000 dollars, about FCFA 2,95 million, is to enable her implement her entrepreneurial project. The project is to manufacture improved stoves through scrap metal recycling. The fireplaces, according to her, are economical and environmentally friendly because they do not use wood. The material used to manufacture these improved stoves is essentially made of metal scraps collected from the environment. That is, from companies and old abandoned cars.
In recognition of the fact that Juveline made Cameroon proud, Mounouna Foutsou, minister of youth affairs, received her on 18 October in Yaounde. The Minister urged young people during the ceremony to become more engaged in entrepreneurship and to seize opportunities emerging in the sector. This is because, despite the battery of measures taken by the government for young people, more needs to be done to meet all their expectations. “Juveline Ngum Ngwa understood it and the result is here today. The organization of this ceremony in her honour is not just to celebrate her as a role model for others to emulate, but also to encourage youths to follow her example”.
Launched in Rwanda in 2012, the YouthConnect Africa initiative is a programme that brings together government, the private sector and development partners around the growing problem of unemployment and exclusion of young people from economic growth and the democratic process in Africa. The initiative which is specific to the African context, aims to create opportunities for the social, economic and political development of young people in their respective countries.
