Recruitment of 1000 lecturers into state varsities: 60 PhD holders excluded for over-age seek Biya’s intervention.
Some 60 PhD holders excluded from the ongoing recruitment of 1000 lecturers into state universities now look up to President Paul Biya as their last hope.
After slaving for as long as 20 years as monitors, research assistants and part-time lecturers in the various state universities, their experience has not stood them in good stead. Instead, they have been sacrificed in the ongoing selection process of permanent lecturers on account of the 45-year age limit set for the recruitment exercise. Correspondences addressed to the PM, Senate President, House Speaker and then to the Minister of State for Higher Education on their plight have not prospered and so they feel hard done by.
The frustration that has gripped them is so telling and they want justice done so that they can put their service and experience for nation-building. Following is the last correspondence they addressed to the PM on their plight:
